It is not an uncommon situation: A work crew is ready to start. The model shows one solution, the drawing shows another solution…and an issue has been discussed in another system.
Before work can start, someone must establish what is current and approved.

Is the model accurate? Is the drawing the current, ‘official’ document…or is it an older revision?

The choice is familiar: stop and verify, or continue with the risk of building from the wrong information.

This is not a lack-of-information problem. It is a trust problem.

A single source of truth, or SSOT, gives the project one governed information foundation. In StreamBIM, the model provides the shared context for drawings, issues, decisions and documentation, helping the team answer three questions before acting:

One source of truth does not mean one tool

A construction project still needs specialist tools for design, coordination, planning, quality and document control. Replacing them all with one application is neither realistic nor necessary.

The important distinction is between one trusted source and one closed system.

APIs and open standards can connect specialist tools to the shared information foundation. But moving data is not enough. A useful integration must preserve context, status and traceability, and the project must define which system is authoritative for each type of information. Otherwise, an integration can simply create another copy to check.

Connected systems, without new silos

The BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) is an open standard for exchanging model-related issues between BIM applications. It helps an issue retain its connection to the model when different tools are used.

StreamBIM supports BCF-based collaboration, including a BCF Server integration with Solibri. Users can work with issues across the two platforms without repeatedly exporting and importing BCF files.
